14 Feb 2010 :: Ah... NBA
All Star Weekend. Valentine's Day. Easy trump here, since I hate Valentine's Day and keep wishing it will go the way of the Passenger Pigeon.
I'm not watching the All Star festivities and it is not because of the Olympics. I used to get pretty amped about the weekend- it was fun to see players mess around and some contests could be really impressive.
Last year was a step down- the three point contest lacks too many good rounds from players, the players never take the Skills Competition seriously and HORSE only goes to show the lack of originality and fun that the big stage brings out in people.
The dunk contest participants were terrible too. Last year I was bored of Little Nate's routine- at some point his dunks started getting tired. The summary of the whole event is like this: lots of flash and no substance, partially because the best bail on events.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement is up for haggling. Shorter contracts and smaller salaries would be a good first step. A great second step might be to have a clause in every contract that the player has to participate in the weekend's events. Give back to the fans, rather than hide on the sidelines in some of the most ludicrous get ups ever.
That is the third point for the new CBA- the athletes wardrobe should have to pass inspection of a neutral third party that is not colorblind. I'm looking at you, Wade. |
