Given my status as a student, I am neither making money, nor making myself much more skilled for jobs. Needless to say, everything boiled down to a series of brilliant decisions for this summer. I'm down to two classes to go after barely having classes this last year because PPPM manages to make thing rather convoluted, which isn't something this blog is about, but more about how I have three months this summer in which to make enough money to pay for these two classes and the 12 credits worth of interning that I need to starting doing at some juncture in my near future.
Obvious, really. I needed to find a paying internship for this summer that was in Eugene in an economic climate that your great grandparents could relate to, thinking back on their memories of driving across the country in terrible cars with everything they ever owned strapped to the top and back. Typically, most internships don't involve money, so I spent a month or two digging up leads to get mostly turned down without really doing much forward looking towards how I was going to make money for this summer.
Which leads to my job qualifications; I don't really have any. I've applied for about five or six jobs in the immediate Eugene area in fields that directly relate to my new major, thinking that I could get a job and manage to fulfill the intern credits. I've had three phone interview that went decidedly south when I decided to profess that I do have a few classes remaining. Sam has since corrected my approach, with the thought that if I prove myself to be a valuable asset over the course of the summer, they would let me take three hours off a week to take my courses, of course, that might also be really hopeful.
So it has led to this point where I don't have a job and I don't have an internship. Right now I am looking at gas stations or temp agencies, but I'm kinda putting that off because neither will be fun, look good on a resume or really pad my wallet. |
